[Miller - Whitted Family.FTW] Due to his religious upbringing, his brother John and he decided to migrate to New England.
One of the founders of Wallingford, which was incorporated as a town on May 12, 1670.
Tombstone is the oldest and most interesting one in Wallingford. It is nothing more than a common field stone 4 inches thick, a little over a foot high and about as wide, tapering toward the bottom. On one of the flat sides are his initials, age and date of death. `AD 70 1690'.
Held numerous public offices throughout his years, both in New Haven, (chief executive officer; deputy from New Haven to the General Assembly at Hartford; served several years as selectman) and in Wallingford, (representative several terms at the General Court at Hartford; town treasurer etc.). During the 20 years from the incorporation of Wallingford until his death in 1690, he was appointed to almost every position of responsibility within the gift of his fellow-townsmen. (Surveyor of highways, selectman, one of a committee of 13 to attend the founding of the first church (Congregational) in the village, superintendent of its construction, sergeant of the `first traine band', member of the Vigilance Committee, Deputy to the General Court etc.)
