Record of his marriage refers to John as being from Freetown, as does mention of his name in a Chase family history book, a Hathaway genealogy book, and the Old Families of SE Massachusetts book. It is likely that he is related t o the Youngs of Eastham, but no proof has been located to date. Lacking evidence to the contrary, this John is assumed to be the 3109 John Young of the Eastham Youngs listed in MF12:496 That John Young was baptised in Rochester on 20 Mar 1774.....consistent with being born in 1773. At that time, Rochester and Freetown were adjoining towns.

The federal census of 1850 shows his wife living with their son John (who died in 1866), so John senior must have died before then. New Bedford Mercury newspaper had an obit for a Capt John Young of Fall River who died in 1835.
